How to use SoloFin
From first launch to multi-device sync — here's how to make the most of SoloFin.
1. Getting started
- Download SoloFin for your platform from the links on the home page.
- Open the app and start tracking right away. Mobile and desktop need no account — only the web app uses a free sign-in. Your ledger lives locally on your device.
- Add your first account (cash, checking, savings or a credit card) from the Accounts screen.
2. Recording transactions
- Tap the + button to log an income or expense.
- Pick a category, amount and date. Add a note if you like.
- Review everything later in the Transactions list, filterable by month and category.
3. Setting up budgets
- Go to Budget and pick the categories you want to limit each month.
- Set an amount per category — SoloFin shows remaining budget as you spend.
- Adjust anytime; changes apply from the current month forward.
4. Syncing across devices
- Upgrade to SoloFin Pro ($24/year) to unlock encrypted sync.
- On your first device, enable Sync & Pro and create your sync key.
- On other devices, enter the same sync key — data merges end-to-end encrypted.
- Your key never leaves your devices: only you can read your data.
5. Backup & export
- Export your full ledger as a file from Settings → Export at any time.
- Keep the export anywhere you like — it's plain data you own.
- Import it back on any device to restore or migrate.
